Why You Dream About Your Teeth Falling Out‍

One common but frightening dream is dreaming about your teeth falling out. If you’ve had this dream you probably wake up relieved that your pearly whites are still in place.

It’s a really strange nightmare that can leave you a bit worried. Does dreaming about your teeth indicate a problem you may be having with your oral health? Does it have any meaning at all?

Here are 3 common explanations for why you may dream about your teeth falling out:

1. Stress and Anxiety

Dreaming about your teeth falling off may just be a sign you’re under a lot of stress or feeling anxious. While we don’t know exactly why we dream, or how dreams correlate to our personal lives, some experts believe that when we dream we are trying to work out a few issues.

So if you’re dealing with lots of stress or anxiety, and dream about losing your teeth often, it could just be a sign that you need to take better care of your mental health.

2. Someone Else Losing Their Teeth

Your dream may not necessarily be about your own teeth. If someone in your life recently lost one of multiple teeth, it is possible to dream about losing your own.

This is usually caused by the fear that if a loved one loses some teeth, then you could too, which is why the dream appears.

3. Personal Loss

Some religions and cultures believe that when you dream about losing your teeth, it’s actually an omen that you’ll soon experience a personal loss.

Many people have this dream after the death of a loved one, or after they experience some other form of loss.

Can This Dream Indicate a Dental Health Problem?

Of course, after you dream about losing your teeth, the first question you may have is:

Does this mean there’s something wrong with my oral health?

And in some cases, the answer can be yes.

For instance, people who grind their teeth during their sleep can have such a dream, possibly because their brain is trying to warn them that their teeth need some attention. If you grind your teeth, you will wake up a bit sore or in pain, and if you share a bed, your sleeping partner will most likely hear it too.

Another explanation could simply be the fact that you haven’t been on top of your oral health needs in a while. For instance, if you realize you are greatly overdue for a dentist appointment, you can dream about losing your teeth, simply because deep down you may be worried about your dental health.
