What to expect at your dental crown appointment in Clarksburg
Consultation
Dr. Anum Zaidi will examine your teeth and may take some x-rays to look at the extent of the damage. If you are determined as a good candidate for dental crowns, an appointment will be scheduled. If your tooth is too damaged or has extensive decay, you may need some other treatment first, such as a root canal.
Preparation
The tooth that is receiving the dental crown will need to have a portion of the enamel filed down to fit the dental crown into the mouth and so it is uniform with the other teeth. The amount of enamel that will be removed is proportional to the thickness of the crown. You will be given local anesthesia so the process is painless.
Impressions
Impressions of your teeth will be taken and sent to an outside dental lab that will create a dental crown that matches your natural teeth in color, size, and shape. The impressions also serve as a model for the way your bite fits together. Your dental crown will be ready within 2-3 weeks and in the meantime, you will be given a temporary crown to protect your filed down tooth.
Crown Fitting
Once we have received your official dental crown, you will return to our Clarksburg office to have a fitting. The color and fit will all be examined and you will inform us if anything does not feel right so adjustments can be made if necessary. Then we will administer a local anesthetic to cement the crown into place. Dr. Zaidi will give you instructions on how to care for your dental crown for the long term.
