Starting care with a new dentist shouldn't feel complicated. Here's everything you need to know before your first visit with us.
Choosing a new dentist usually comes with a little hesitation, whether it's been a few months or a few years since your last cleaning. At Urban Dental Studio, we built our new patient process around taking that pressure off. No lectures about missed appointments, no rushed exams, no confusing paperwork handed to you five minutes before your name is called.
Our Clarksburg office was designed so that your first appointment feels more like a conversation than an interrogation. We want to understand your history, your concerns, and what "a healthy smile" actually means to you before we talk about treatment of any kind.
Whether you're moving to the area, switching dentists after a less-than-great experience, or finally getting back to regular care after a long gap, this page walks you through exactly what to expect from your first call to your first cleaning.
New patient visits typically run longer than a routine cleaning because we're doing two things at once: getting to know your mouth and getting to know you. Here's roughly how the appointment unfolds once you walk through our door at 23212 Brewers Tavern Way.
We confirm your information, review any forms you've completed ahead of time, and answer any last-minute questions before you're called back.
We talk through your dental history, any sensitivity or pain you've noticed, and what you'd like out of your care here, before any instruments come out.
A thorough exam, digital X-rays when needed, and a gentle cleaning if time allows, so we can see the full picture of your oral health.
We explain anything we find in plain language, outline options and costs, and let you decide what happens next, with zero pressure to commit on the spot.
Nobody wants to spend their first fifteen minutes with a new dentist filling out forms on a clipboard. We send new patient paperwork ahead of time so you can fill it out from your couch, on your own schedule, at whatever hour works for you.
A few things that help your first visit go smoothly:
One of the biggest reasons people put off dental visits is not knowing what it will cost. We address that head-on. Before any treatment beyond your exam and cleaning begins, we review the pricing with you so there's nothing vague or hidden.
If you're new to our practice, be sure to check our New Patient Special for current offers on exams and cleanings. We also offer an in-house Membership Plan for patients without dental insurance, which covers routine preventive visits at a flat annual rate.
Already a patient and love your experience here? Our Patient Referral Program rewards you for sending friends and family our way, and it's one of the main reasons so many new patients come to us by word of mouth in the first place.
We hear it often from new patients: this visit felt different than dental appointments they've had before. That's not an accident. A handful of choices we've made as a practice tend to show up in how comfortable people feel from the very first handshake.
We schedule enough time for new patients so your exam doesn't feel rushed through to fit the next appointment in.
We explain findings and options in everyday terms, not dental jargon, so you actually understand what's happening in your own mouth.
Spanish-speaking patients and families can request care in their preferred language through our Spanish Speaking Office page.
We offer morning and afternoon slots most weekdays, and online booking so you're not stuck playing phone tag to get on the calendar.
Whether it's been two years or ten since your last appointment, we meet you where you are instead of where you "should" be.

Urban Dental Studio sits at 23212 Brewers Tavern Way in Clarksburg, convenient for families throughout the surrounding Maryland communities. Parking is easy, and our front desk team is happy to answer any logistical questions before your appointment, whether that's directions, parking, or what to bring.
It's completely normal to do a little homework before switching dental offices. If you're still weighing your options, a few pages on our site can help you get a fuller picture of what to expect.
Plan on roughly 60 to 75 minutes for a standard new patient visit. This gives us enough time for a full conversation about your history, a comprehensive exam, any necessary X-rays, and usually a cleaning as well. If you have a more complex concern, let us know when you book so we can allow extra time.
Bring a photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of any medications you're currently taking. If you've completed our online forms ahead of time, there's nothing else you'll need to bring, just yourself. You can find those forms on our Forms & Financing page.
We work with a wide range of dental insurance plans and are happy to verify your benefits before your appointment so you know what to expect out of pocket. Visit our Insurance page for details, or call our office at (240) 512-1571 and our front desk team can check for you directly.
Many of our patients don't carry dental insurance, and that's perfectly fine. Our in-house Membership Plan covers routine preventive visits for a flat annual fee with no claims or waiting periods, and new patients can also take advantage of our current New Patient Special pricing.
Not at all. We see patients returning to care after long gaps on a regular basis, and our only goal is to help you move forward from here. We'll explain what we find, walk through your options at a pace you're comfortable with, and never pressure you into treatment before you're ready.
You can book online any time through our scheduling page, or call our office directly at (240) 512-1571 during business hours. We'll confirm your appointment and send along any paperwork to complete beforehand.
